Directs strong column of air, but pricey Dec 18, 2007
By Speednet I'll start by saying that I'm a repeat-buyer of Vornado fans, and I think they're worth the extra money. With one exception, all of my Vornado fans have been of high quality, and produce at least as much air as any other fan that produces the same amount of noise. (My benchmark, since I hate loud fans.)
The fan has three settings. The lowest setting is good for very quiet, but fairly good, air. Most fans' lowest setting is unuseable, but I did find use for the lowest setting with this fan. However, you are probably looking at this fan in order to produce a large quantity of air, so the medium and high settings are what you'll use the most.
High speed does produce a bit of noise, but in my opinion it's quiter than any other fan I've tested that produces as much air as it does. The main benefit to the high speed setting is that it outputs a tremendous quantity of air in a very tight column. It is amazing how you can direct the air to a specific spot. In my case this is what I wanted -- the ability to target an exact point at which to shoot the air.
The fan feels solid, and seems to be built to last a long time. That would be consistent with my other Vornado purchases, which have all lasted several years with no problems.
I was initially worried about the look of the bent tube "leg" (stand), but in person it looks fine, and you don't really notice it like you do against the white background in the photo.

Excellent fan with strong air current Dec 31, 2008
By Jhyphi First off, this Vornado is the same size and essentially the same as the 733B or 783B. The difference is how high off the ground it sits. One additional benefit this one has over 733B is that there are slightly more angles you can point at but this is minor given how you use this air circulator.
This Vornado is a large size fan (air circulator as Vornado likes to call it). The best way to use this is to draw cool air in or out of the room by creating a vacuum near a window or door.
Also, it evenly cools the room by keeping a small breeze which makes it immediately feel a few degrees lower than still air.
This can be run near air conditioners or heaters to more evenly distribute the hot/cold air so people don't need to sit right by the heater or AC to feel the effects.
If you'll notice, this fan does not have a pole stand nor does it swivel. As such, it is not meant to point directly at people. It's purpose to point in the general direction for cooling or as an air circulator.
Pros:
- Moves a lot of air
- Very durable
- Quiet for size/amount of air movement
- Pleasing to look at
Cons:
- No timer
- Does not auto-rotate
Overall:
- After using this for several months including summer and winter, I am highly pleased with it and would highly recommend it to everyone. For the amount of air it moves, it is very quiet and does the job well.

Do Yourself A Favor: Buy A Vornado!! Jun 26, 2007
By The AmaZone They may be more costly than your average fan, but they are SO worth it. I have had this fan for a few years now and it has never given me a bit of trouble. It cools very large spaces, runs quietly, and is very easy to take apart and clean. And, unlike some other "high-velocity" fans, the motor does not overheat. Just keep it clean and it will take care of itself. Once you go with a Vornado you will never look back!

Amazing Fan! Mar 17, 2007
By S.
"strap"
When our Air Conditioner died yesterday and we were told it would be 4 weeks before the part was available to fix it (I think it's coming via canoe from the mainland), I immediately rushed out to buy some fans.
I was skeptical that a fan would keep us cool. My previous experience with fans has always been with the cheapie $19.99 fans from Wal Mart. A major concern with my fan purchase was the "finger chop-off factor" (FCOF) for my 1 year old. I tested every model in the store, and the Vornado models had the lowest FCOF. So, that's the real reason I purchased this model...I wasn't keen on the much higher price tag, but felt in the long run it would save us money and all the problems inherent with a digit-less child.
As soon as I plugged in the Vornado, we could tell a difference in the house's airflow. This thing actually kept the entire room cool consistently...none of that oscillation garbage that only provides you air every 5 seconds. Last night, I had to pull out the comforter because the Vornado was working too well. Thank you Vornado for keeping us cool!

Quiet with good air throw Jun 02, 2008
By Thomas Harold I'm fairly happy with my Vornado 723B. At the lowest speed setting, it's pretty quiet (whisper / soft voice) but still throws a decent amount of air. At the highest speed, it throws a lot of air for a good distance, yet is still only moderately noisy. I definitely like that I can turn it down for low-noise without having to turn it off entirely.
