Enjoyable surprise Dec 02, 2005
By mquincy I admit I wasn't that excited about the idea for this book, which I thought would probably be obvious or crude. So it was a pleasant surprise to find it was such a funny and interesting read. The characters are imperfect like the people we all know, and along the way they have a lot of funny things to say about men and women and marriage and doing the right thing.

Do yourself a favor: buy it now. Dec 07, 2005
By Charlitos I picked this book up by chance at a local bookstore. I had intentions of buying a book since I was completely bored, but don't let that change your opinion about this review. I read the summary and it seemed pretty interesting, but I was afraid the book would turn into a totally aweful purchase and I was afraid the cashier would snicker at me, holding this book that just does not look like masculine literature. Well, suffice to say it, when I got home, I started reading. Within a few pages, I was hooked. When you first read about Doug, I'm sure your reaction will be like mine: I laughed so hard I woke everyone else up in the house. It's a great book and very humorous. It is exactly as the summary states - a book about 3 men and what happens when their wives offer them a prostitute as a prize.
This book went by in a breeze; and I absolutely do not like to read at all - but this novel kept me going. I finished it the day after I purchased it. It even had references to a lot of pop culture, which is definitely refreshing. I wish it was longer or there were more books like this, but I can't find any!
So, do yourself a favor, get this book!

BUY THIS BOOK! Nov 28, 2005

This book is a pure joy to read. It explores the areas of our pop culture we are all dying to explore, begs us to look at our lives differently and does so with such wit, ease, and originality. I recommend buying this book for a fun weekend read or even as a holiday gift for the man (or woman) you love!
Work with it... Aug 04, 2006
By Andrea McNeely A sort of comedy of manners, full of great gags and zippy one-liners. Either ride along at the authors' fast pace for pure entertainment, or slow yourself down to ponder the touching and sometimes surprising nature of the characters' relationships.

Funny premise, well written Dec 18, 2005

I'm a hard-boiled mystery reader who seldom ventures into comedic books, mainly because I find few of them really funny. The premise of this book appealed to my whimsical side -- 3 300-pound men whose wives conspire to offer them a freebie with a hooker if they get down to 210 pounds. Amusing in an of itself.
But what made this book unique were two things: we get to see what each character is thinking in their own words, and it's just plain very well written. I laughed out loud a significant number of times -- and I couldn't put it down. It's a breezy read, written in little chunks that are easy to zip through.
I figured this would be a pretty shallow book but I think the authors did a good job of giving us insight into the characters, especially the 3 men, without getting bogged down. And they kept me laughing, not in a Mel Brooks ridiculous-silly way, but in a this-could-be-someone-I-know way.
Total enjoyment. I'm buying some for friends who want to read it because I don't want to give up my copy.
