Takes the Edge Off Aug 18, 2010 Do not expect that this machine will turn your house into an icebox.
Do not expect this machine to make ice cubes.
Expect this machine to take edge of the heat.
Expect this machine to make life bearable.
Expect this machine to be reasonably loud.
Expect this machine to be used a lot.
Set your expectations right, and you will not go wrong.
We use this in the front of our house, with an open corridor, and it manages to cool the front room just fine, despite the room not being closed off fully. We also have high ceilings.
This is a quality product. It may be hard to sleep with the noise at full blast, so do as the instruction manual suggests and run the machine 1-2 hours before you sleep.
Set your expectations right, and you will not go wrong.

Takes the edge off Aug 16, 2010 We got this unit about a month ago and have been using it as needed to help fight the high heat days we've been seeing more and more of this summer on the East Coast. It's our temp fix until we make the jump to central air or mini split AC next spring. The room that this is located in is a living/dining "great" room that is approx 26'x16'. I've measured the temperature of the air coming out of this unit and it's about 63F. We've been running this unit for 12-14 hours a day and it keeps the temps in the room around 82F (I should note that we get full sun and even with the blinds closed the room still gets quite hot during the day). We never intended for this unit to chill the room to 68F but rather to just take the edge off of the temps and to take some of the moisture out of the room. This unit does that quite well and I should note that we've not yet had the "water full" light come on even after it's been running for so many hours per day..

good little a/c Aug 09, 2010 I've been using this off and on for the past month. Since I live in Seattle I rarely need air conditioning, but the place I'm renting now is in the upstairs of a house that does not ventilate well at all so I wanted to be able to cool off the bedroom at night. The fan isn't what I'd call quiet, but it isn't super loud either. So far I've only used the low a/c setting and it can cool off my small room 4 to 6 degrees in 30 to 45 min. It was definitely worth the expense for me. My bedroom is a pretty small room so you'd probably want a model with more BTU for a big room or a room with high ceilings.

Works well! Aug 05, 2010 I've never left Amazon feedback (only obligatory feedback for non-Amazon sellers), but I felt I should give my 2 cents for portable ACs, considering how much confusion is out there. I spent many hours researching portable ACs and so far I'm glad I chose this one. It's a no-frills portable, perfect for my 11x13 bedroom not only for its cooling/dehumidifying coverage but also because it includes a 51" window kit which nicely covers my 48" slider window, and, because my apartment complex rules do not allow window units, the "portable" nature of this unit is a must. It also weighs the same as a comparable window unit, and I have yet to need to do any draining despite continual usage during this humid New England summer. My only concern is whether it's going to last at least 5 years as I hope or if it doesn't last the summer. But so far so good!
Weak Jul 28, 2010 It blows slightly cooled air which even on high takes a bit to lower the room temp barely at all. Also, the water tray fills within a few hours of running if I don't have it going somewhere (which I now do), and I don't even live in all that humid of a climate. Water is not easily removed either, have to let it out the pipe.
As has been said, if it is at all possible to use a window unit, do so. I have crank outs so it sadly wan't for me.
